Osvald:

Where did you see ghosts in my paintings, Mother?

 

Mrs. Alving:

In those paintings you said were your own. I saw the ghosts in your pictures that tell of joie de vivre, of light, sun and warmth.

 

Osvald:

I have never painted ghosts, Mother.

Osvald:

I think you were afraid I would lose my memories of home.

Because you were afraid of losing your own memories in the process.

You must have long since realised, Mother, why I've come back home and what I'm trying to find here.

You've long since realised what I'm looking for here, and what I remember, in my pictures.
